METIER3
The landmark Spot Building, located in the University Square Precinct of the University of Melbourne, opened in 2009 with a 5 star Green Star rating under the Green Building Council of Australia's Education Pilot tool and was the first educational building, of this scale, to achieve the rating, a significant milestone in the development of environmentally sustainable buildings in Australia. Continuing in the spirit of innovation and design excellence, the new Centre for Workplace Leadership, housed on Level 6 South, constitutes a new research facility funded by the Federal Government, the Faculty of Business and Economics and the University of Melbourne.
The design for the Centre embodies the research and challenges the traditional academic program of enclosed offices. METIER3 spent much time working with the client to develop the functional and aspirational requirements of the brief and delivered a project that has exceeded the expectation of the University. The design respectfully integrates the academic context of the base building with the client's desire for a program that advocates robust collaboration, as well as quiet withdrawal for reading and writing. The space is designed for flexibility to meet future Faculty requirements and in accord with the University of Melbourne's mandate for environmentally sustainable design.
